CASA HISTORY

Casa Amarela is a spacious traditional farmhouse with rooms covering two floors plus a long veranda overlooking the private pool and surrounding nature. Originally located in Minas Gerais state, it was carefully disassembled, transplanted and rebuilt just a few meters from the beach for its second life at UXUA Maré. Original thatch ceilings were remade by UXUA D.A.S. atelier which also converted antique Brazilian woods into new furnishings and décor, combined with antiques from the region and around the world. Bathroom tiles are handmade locally with a colorful tradition of enzyme treated cement.

A main suite on the ground floor (Suite Terra) is complemented by two on the second with forest (Suite Mata) and sea views (Suite Mar), making it a perfect family casa, with comfortable sofas in each suite offering the possibilities of extra beds. There is plenty to enjoy with the spacious private pool, open kitchen and airy living room and the almost desert Itapororoca beach just 20 meters away so TVs are rarely in demand, but available upon request.

In another clearing, the whimsical three-bedroom Casa Amarela (Yellow House)—also a transplant from the town of Cuba with new walls—is dedicated to sunshine with a giant concrete sun, hand-drawn by Das on an upstairs wall and porthole windows of Bahian amber and green glass. Gnarled Pequi beams, witnesses to centuries of history, run along the downstairs veranda, while wooden steps carved by Pica-pau with the moon and stars lead to the one upstairs slung with hammocks. Nearby is an antique wooden bench carved with angels in the Baroque style that arose from Minas state’s Gold Rush—an oblique reference to the golden light that floods terraces, and perhaps to the sensation here of being among Brazil’s first settlers. Immersed in the forest, branches turn into indoor lights and trunks into outdoor showers.

The three-suite Casa Amarela features a long outdoor balcony that overlooks a clearing with a cactus garden and indigenous fruit trees planted to attract toucans and parrots.
