ITAPOROROCA BEACH

Named by the Tupi indigenous people after the coral reefs that hugs the coast (Ita - rock and Pororoca - meeting of waters), Itapororoca Beach is one of the most beautiful and protected areas of Trancoso.

Known for the transparent shallow pools created by the corals at low tide and for the abundant vegetation merging into white sand, Itapororoca offers the perfect isolated and lost in time beach athmosphere.

Here, each UXUA Maré casa has its own private beach lounge.

The preserved native vegetation provides natural shade and refreshingly cooler temperatures than meters away on the sand.

Built on stilts so as not to interfere with the nature and nestled within the greenery a wooden beach bar carved from a fallen pequi tree serves tropical drinks and snacks to be enjoyed by the sea or on one of the lounges under the trees.

“"A stay here is truly cleansing. Maré is a model positive-impact project using tourism to preserve both the flora and fauna here."”
Condé Nast Traveller

As long as anyone can remember fishermen walk here every morning with their nets, looking for the abundand sea urchins, octopus, lobster, and tropical fish.

For those exploring the sea at high tide in kayaks or paddle boards the ocasional sea turtle sighting is not uncommon.
